“Let the Wild Rumpus Start!”

When I heard that a film version of Where the Wild Things Are was being made, I had mixed feelings. As many of you would say as well, dear readers, that is a very special book to me. I truly had no idea how they would take, what, 50 words, tops, and make a film out of it. What they came up with is clearly based on Max and his mom, and Sendak’s monster images, but is a story all it’s own. Maurice Sendak has given it his glowing approval and has been involved straight through, which gives me great hope and this trailer is beautiful if a bit savagely manipulative. Spike Jonze is also a director who knows how to deal with dark whimsy, so we’ll see how it goes.

Fingers are officially crossed. Maybe I would be more hopeful if it were directed by Del Toro. That would be WICKED.

Now, if Terry Gilliam would direct a film based on Sendak’s In the Night Kitchen…THAT would be cool.
