A Moonless Digression

Sometimes I think too much at night.

Persistence

We are a persistent breed in the cathedral of the night.

So many questions without answers, piling up like altar stones, entombing me.

I feel them in blood and bone, whispered to me from a moonless sky, gibbered through shattered window panes.

What is sacred, what is profane?

What is darkness, what is light?

Why do sure steps falter?

Why do we see so little? Why do we feel so much?

Why does love begin, why does it end, and do we ever really know another’s heart?

Could we know? Should we know?

Why do we bother to wonder anymore?

Questions without answers, blood and bone from a moonless sky.

We are a persistent breed in the cathedral of the night.

Perhaps that is all the answer we will ever know.
