A Sweet Distraction

Sometimes one needs a small distraction to keep the daily travails of the Metaverse in perspective. Recently I encountered just such a distraction, and with a Victorian theme to boot.

Namely, I ran across a little game called Chocolatier, which allows you to fill the confectioner’s apron of a Victorian candy maker as you rise from novice to Master Chocolatier.

Below I have have reproduced the author’s description of the game:

Conquer the world with chocolate! Become a master chocolatier one ingredient at a time in this spirited adventure. Search the globe for exclusive recipes and the sweetest ingredients . . . but watch out for conniving competitors! Between trips, set up your factories to maximize production in a fast-paced frenzy of fun. Do you have the savvy for scrumptiousness to climb the ranks from Apprentice to Master Chocolatier? Featuring two game modes, an original storyline, and gorgeous full-screen graphics, Chocolatier is a scrumptious treat for the whole family.

I found the game to be highly enjoyable, interesting and quite addictive. It is at heart a mercantile game as you seek to gain wealth and prestige by carefully managing your resources and recipes. I actually learned a bit about Geography and the Victorian world-view as I raced about the world making sure I had all the ingredients I required, filling orders and completing missions.

A demo version of the game is available from RealArcade HERE. If you are a fan of today’s highly popular “casual games“, which can be played easily whenever you have a few minutes to spare, I think you will find Chocolatier to be an excellent choice. It’s clever theme and Victorian resonance won my heart…and made me hungry.

  1. Yummy. This sound like the perfect game for a Duchess from Chocolate Town, USA.
